Pros and Cons
The positives of the site are plentiful for those who want a purely custom experience. Because it is all code based, this allows any user to implement their own addition to their site without any cost, privded they know how to implement other elements. The only limit to what you can add is just the bandwidth and storage limit, which for a beginner site is still very generous and plentiful. Extra storage is available if the user decides to support the project through monetary donations. Support is widely availble through guides and sites such as GitHub. Since the project is open source, anybody can contribute to the project which makes lots of content widely availbe for use. Best of all, the basic service is free to use without any pressure to upgrade services.
HTML also can be a downfall for many people who want to create a website with few obstacles or learning curves. The process of creating a website with HTML and a web-based creator is vastly different. For a beginner, the process of HTML may seem very limited to just basic text manipulation and uploading pictures, but other elements like CSS and JavaScript can overcome this. The problem is that it takes more time to learn these processes and can impact the timelime of certain projects and make them longer and more complex than a user would want. Although anybody can learn to code, the major audience that this targets is primarially young teenagers up to young adults. This makes other services more appealing to older audiences or individuals with little to no computer experience. Other services are click and drag and allow for real time previews during the editing process. Code looks vastly different from what the actual webpage looks like and may seem confusing to certain individuals.
